My favorite game Paragraph is cricket. It is one of the most popular games in the sub-continent as well as in the world. It is played between two teams. Each team consists of eleven players. This game needs an oval field in the middle of which there is a rectangular pitch specially prepared for the batting and bowling. It is played with a bat and a ball. The pitch is 22 yards by 10 feet wide. Two sets of sticks which are known as wickets are set in the ground at the two ends of the pitch. Two pieces of wood known as bails lie horizontally across the wickets. After the toss the team winning the toss has to select between batting and bowling. A session of batting and bowling is known as an innings. There are several formats of the match. A test match continues for five days. Each team takes two turns. Of batting and bowling. A fifty- over match is called a One day match. In it a team faces fifty- overs. Each over consists of six deliveries by the bowling side to the batting side. Another format which is of recent origin has become very much popular. It is called twenty-twenty where each team faces just twenty overs to score as many runs as they can. There are certain rules that are strictly maintained to play the game. The batsman has to defend his wicket from being hit by the bowler who bowls with a straight hand. If the bails are hit or dropped he is dismissed and some other batsman from his side replaces him. The batsman may play defensive or offensive. He is to hit hard the ball to make runs. There are two batsmen on two sides of the wicket. They change places quickly before the ball being thrown at the wicket. If the ball goes straight off the ground without hitting the field, six runs are scored. Otherwise it will be four. Two umpires are appointed to run the game smoothly. Now there are as many as 60 nations that play cricket. But among them England, Australia, Pakistan, India, South-Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and West Indies are famous. Afghanistan is a new team in the cricket world. They are competing in the world cup matches. Sachin Tendulkar of India, Brian Lara of West Indies, Muralidharan of Sri Lanka, Sakib-al Hasan of Bangladesh, Mohammed Yunus of Pakistan, Ricky Ponting of Australia are some of the renowned cricket players.
